As we age, the upper eyelids lose their tone and may fall over the eyes, which looks a little unaesthetic and can cause vision problems. This is due to the fact that the skin in these areas is very thin and delicate, capable of rapidly stretching, losing elasticity. Then the way out in this situation can be the plastic of the upper eyelids . In addition, in the area of ​​the skin sagging over the eyes, a hernia or protrusion of the subcutaneous tissue may form, which will also help to correct the plastic surgery of the upper eyelids .  

Upper eyelid surgery (or blepharoplasty) is an operative method, as a result of which it is possible to eliminate various imperfections in this area (wrinkles, hernias, overhanging of the stretched skin over the eyeball, which greatly interferes with normal vision). It can be performed independently or together with other types of plastic surgery. The drooping of the eyelids over the eye is both an acquired disease, but it can also be inherited. Drooping of the eyelid usually occurs at the age when a person begins to age (50-60 years). Sometimes in the corners of the eyes, subcutaneous fatty hernias can form due to a hereditary predisposition. That is, the plastic of the upper eyelids   indicated for patients who have excess skin overhanging over the eye, from which vision is impaired, the eyes get tired quickly, and the face seems tired and very aged.

Upper eyelid plastic surgery is a difficult operation that requires a skilled surgeon. It is done under general anesthesia. First, incisions are made in the skin along the natural line of the eyelids, then excess skin is removed, fat hernias are removed, and the wound must be sutured using cosmetic stitches that will not be very noticeable. If the operation is carried out successfully, without inflammation and complications, then the seams from it will be minimal, the scars are hidden in the natural fold of the eye, after a few time they turn pale and merge with the skin. After the operation, a sterile bandage is applied to the eyes for several days, and the patient is prescribed pain relievers, since they may be tormented by a slight throbbing pain. In some cases, however, pain reliever is not required, since the healing process is not accompanied by pain. 

For more than ten days, swelling of the operated eyelids will be observed, hematomas begin to subside in about a week. If there were hemorrhages in the sclera and conjunctiva, then they also disappear in about seven days. Sometimes patients have a side effect for some time after the operation – involuntary lacrimation, impaired visual function of the eyes, thinning of eyelashes. But after about a month, all residual effects should disappear. The stitches are usually removed on the fourth day of the patient’s stay in the clinic. On the seam line, special tapes are applied to help them not to disperse. Full restoration of working capacity will take about two weeks, and after the same period a person can start using cosmetics.

The effect after plastic surgery lasts a long time, it can even last until the end of life. If the operation is carried out correctly, then there should be no scars, and the patient’s face will look younger, his appearance will cease to be sad. Complications may arise after plastic surgery, as well as after any operation. For example, the shape of the eyes may change, which will become more round, while the outer corners are lowered. If the appearance changes for the worse, then re-plasty is performed. During surgery or in the process of wound healing, an infection may be introduced, which will require additional therapeutic measures. Bleeding may begin (although usually there is no heavy bleeding with blepharoplasty, moderate bleeding occurs). Damage to the cornea of ​​the eye is considered a very rare complication.
