Chlamydia detected in the eyes? Treatment is urgently needed!

Eye chladimiosis is an inflammatory process in which such unpleasant symptoms as redness and swelling of the eyelids, constant lacrimal and purulent discharge, corneal damage can be observed. Ophthalmochlamidiosis as an independent disease is not common. Basically, it is a disease of an investigative nature in the presence of chlamydial infection in the human urogenital system.

Chlamydia in the eyes of a person usually get through the contact-household way. The causative agents of the disease, which are located in the mucous secretions of the genital areas, can fall into the hands of a person. If personal hygiene is not observed, a person can bring the infection into the mucous membrane of the eyes. At the same time, a patient with chlamydia can harm not only himself, but also become a source of infection for those around him.

Infection can occur by standard, sexual contact, through unprotected sexually exposed contact with the carrier of infection. Infection of infants is possible from a sick mother in utero or during childbirth, during the passage of the birth canal. In addition, chlamydia of the eyes can be infected from animals, since many mammals, as well as some species of fish and even plants, are susceptible to this type of disease.

Diagnosis and symptoms of eye chladimidosis

The course of the disease resembles ordinary conjunctivitis, but with frequent relapses. The frequency of recurrence of the disease can tell the ophthalmologist a possible cause of the disease. If there is a suspicion of chlamydia of the eyes, the patient must undergo special tests to confirm or refute these suspicions.

There are no specific symptoms in ophthalmochlamidiosis that immediately determine the cause of the disease. In this regard, it is not easy to diagnose eye chladimiosis. Due to inexpressive symptoms, it is difficult for a non-core specialist to diagnose chlamydia, the treatment of which is significantly different from the treatment of conventional conjunctivitis.

An ophthalmologist rarely determines the cause of conjunctivitis as a chlamydial infection and, accordingly, prescribes general antibiotics as a treatment for the patient. Chlamydia can be rebuilt, becoming insensitive to these antibiotics. Incorrect treatment can lead to the disease taking a chronic latent form.

To diagnose the disease, it is necessary to take scrapings from the conjunctiva of the eyes, which are examined in the laboratory. They take blood for analysis – they check for antibodies to chlamydia. If conjunctivitis is observed in a newborn child, then his mother should be examined for the presence of chlamydia. Timely diagnosis of chlamydia and its treatment with targeted drugs will help to quickly and effectively completely overcome the disease.

Eye Chlamydia Treatment

Treatment of ophthalmic chlamydia depending on the degree and form of the course of the disease can last from 2 to 4 weeks. First of all, in order to prescribe an effective treatment for chladimiosis of the eyes, it is necessary to determine the sensitivity of chlamydia to antibiotics. Since chlamydia is an intracellular parasite, antibiotics with an etiotropic effect must be used to treat them.

For the treatment of the disease, antibiotics are used in the form of ointments based on tetracycline, sulfapyridazine, diosicycline and others. An experienced ophthalmologist draws up a diagram of the use of drugs for each patient individually.

Chlamydia have several developmental cycles. At a certain stage, they may be insensitive to the antibiotic. Therefore, you need to undergo a full course of treatment to kill parasites at all stages of their development. After conducting complex therapy, it is necessary to undergo a control check and make sure that the infection was completely eliminated.
