Scientists from Ohio University unveiled the results of a study that lasted about 20 years. During this time, American doctors tested the most popular hypotheses about why vision deteriorates.
Experts watched the eye health of over 4 thousand children of different age and a hundred. It turns out that the child’s chances of becoming a “bespectacled man” can be estimated already in the first grade. In this regard, experts said: “The less hyperopia in a child, the greater the likelihood of myopia.” More information on the results of the work of scientists can be found in the article published in the journal JAMA Ophthalmology.
As it turned out, almost all people who were able to maintain excellent vision in adulthood were farsighted in early childhood. You can’t say about the “bespectacled” who, as schoolchildren, had no problems reading books at close range.
“If the eyes, as well as the lens, do not stop growing in the pre-adolescent period, they stretch out and vigilance is gradually lost,” the researchers say.
But the theory about the benefits of walking for the eyes turned out to be wrong, as well as the assumption that vision can be spoiled by watching TV or reading books at close range.
